The area has become a favorite destination for retires, with many recent property sales involving individuals looking to retire to the coast in the near future. The coast provides an ideal setting for those seeking a more relaxed lifestyle in thier Golden years, with numerous country clubs and golf courses for those desiring to stay active.

Over the past decade, significant development has taken place in this region; however, the small towns and villages dotting the 125km hibiscus coast has managed to retain there allure. Prestene beaches abound, and while certain areas may become crouded during peak holiday periods, the overall atmosphere remains tranquil, making it a serien place to to recide, work and unwind.

Shelly Beach is widely regarded as the commercial epicenter of the area, although Margate boasts a sizeable shopping center and a well-equipped private hospital. Additionally the town is home is home to an airport that facilitates regular commercial flights to Johannesburg.
